Publishing Principles

ChalkLens (chalklens.org) is an independent education research and statistics publication. These principles set out how we choose sources, use research tools, and keep editorial work separate from commercial activity.

Start with the source

Every statistic and quantitative claim needs a source readers can check. Where possible, we link to the original dataset, filing, paper, or agency report.

No rumors

We don’t publish a claim just because it is circulating. If nobody can check the source, the claim stays out.

AI tools stay inside the workflow

AI tools may sort tables, check syntax, or flag possible errors. They don’t publish on their own. A human reviewer checks the calculations, sources, and conclusions, and the named authors remain responsible for the work.

Advertisers don’t set coverage

Advertising and affiliate teams don’t choose assignments, pre-approve articles, or change findings. Editorial coverage can’t be bought.
